Paul Turns ONE!!

Once baby Paul arrived, I signed up for a weekly email from BabyCenter that told me all the developmental milestones Paul should be striving for that week. The email subject read something like: Your baby this week is 5 months and 2 weeks. When I opened my email on Paul's birthday I saw: Your toddler this week. My toddler? Who has a toddler? I guess I do.
I had some visions of how I wanted Paul's first birthday party to look: lots of food, friends, drinks, and fun. I think all my dreams came true. We had cute decorations- my grandma and aunt worked hard on the tissue paper balls!

Those vases read: "Blooming for a year" and "A year of growing."

We had tons of food:
And an amazing turnout. There were babies everywhere I looked. It was loud, chaotic, hot, and I loved every minute of it!

The only anticlimactic event of the evening was the cake. I don't know if it was the fact Paul had never had sugar before, or if it was the bad singing, or everyone staring at him, but he didn't not want anything to do with his specially made 1 year old birthday cake. Maybe next year?
Not impressed with the singing

Mom and Dad seem excited?

What the hell is this?

I requested on the invitation that our guests not bring gifts. One because I feel bad that people have to go to God awful places like Toys R US, and because we don't have a basement and definitely don't need more stuff. But mostly because everyone has been so generous to us over the year, and we just wanted to have a party to celebrate all our friends and family. Too bad no one listened to me! One fun gift was Paul's first pair of Jordan's from Uncle Buck. They matched!
Overall, the night was a success. The baby went to bed. People continued to drink. The night ended in flip cup. I woke up with a raging hangover and had to eat a salad from Cherry Creek Grill with my girlfriends Tori and Katie to get a grip. In all honesty I cannot believe how fast this year has gone, how much my sweet boy has changed. I never knew how much you could love a little baby, how much your love grows for your husband as your family expands. I never knew how much I would love being a mom. I love leaving work to see that boy. I love hearing him start talking in the morning and going to get him from his crib, seeing that gummy smile. I love taking him to the park and listening to him laugh on the swings. I love when he kisses me with drool all over his mouth and when he hugs the dog. I love you, precious one year old boy. I'm so blessed to be your mama.
