Celebrate!

One of the best qualities of my family is that they know how to celebrate. My mom's motto is that enough bad things will happen in life so it is really important to celebrate the good. There are millions of presents at Christmas, birthdays last for a week, and weddings are beautiful and fun for everyone. We can now successfully add baby showers to this list of celebrations.

My mom's sisters came out for the big event (from California and Hawaii respectively), Ann took a few days off work and they worked and worked to make every detail perfect. They made a smart decision from the get-go by hiring a caterer who made fabulous food, poured wine, and ended the shower with a chocolate fountain (I may have stood in front of that fountain for 20 minutes. Only social etiquette prevented me from letting the chocolate flow directly into my mouth).

With the invitations, Ann enclosed a blank piece of paper for all the attendees and asked them to give me some advice for child rearing. This was a great idea and the advice was priceless. Major themes were that Ryan and I know best, to take time for ourselves and marriage, and if there is a lighter in the dryer, it is safe to assume your son is smoking something.

Ann and her sisters also shopped until they dropped, where finally Ann admitted she was SO relieved she didn't know this baby's name, or else she would have spend hundreds of dollars monogramming everything! However, I don't know if she will be able to resist this urge once the babe is born.

We received amazing gifts: car seats, clothes (LOTS), toys, books, books, and more books, diapers, memory books, a high chair, diaper bag, a monitor, and more!

Some highlighted gifts:
Baby quilt made by Ryan's mom (so soft!)

Baby quilt from my grandmas (love those colors)

A homemade: If mama ain't happy ain't nobody happy (very true)

Hooter Hider from my grandma (my grandma observed that I talk about my "hoots" quite often on this blog, so I needed this present).

These TOO cute baby cowboy boots

The cutest car lamp ever made

And finally cleaning service for a YEAR!!!!!! My dad was even shocked at his own generosity!

BBV (as well as Ryan and I) are so blessed to have so many people love him. We are so thankful for all of our gifts to the baby, but feel even more appreciative that everyone came to help celebrate the new addition to our family! Thank you!
