Last night I hosted book club at my house. I love having a party. Planning the food, making the food, finding fun napkins (last nights said, "I don't repeat gossip. So listen carefully). I also love sitting around a table eating food, drinking wine and doing lots of talking.
This month we read Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout. It was not an easy read and I wasn't sure I particularly liked it. The book consists of 13 short stories and the character Olive has a connection to each one of the stories, but the characters never end up intersecting with one another. However, after I finished I thought about the book and characters which is usually a sign I liked the book. The jury is still out.
On to the food! I made these spicy chicken roll ups,
A tomato, mozzarella, avocado, and basil salad with toasted french bread,
Apples with sharp cheddar and rice crackers with hummus,
And Valentine blondies for dessert.
Obviously this was all inspired from Pinterest. How did I ever survive without this website?
My friend Tori and I were on the phone while I was preparing for everyone to come over, discussing people who don't read the book. We were saying that we just don't understand not reading. There is an assignment and a due date. You just do it. Then we laughed about what nerds we are.
Next month we are reading this:
Yikes...there is an assignment and a due date. Got. The. Message. :)
ReplyDeleteWith food like that, I can see why some non-readers might show up!
