It's Friday and the weekend looks promising!! Here are my favorites from this week!

Weekend Recap!

Whew these weekends go fast.  Luckily I'm not at work today so Monday is not a true bastard!

Friday we saw our friends for happy hour and some Dominos pizza.  Charlie chased the older boys and wanted desperately to play with them.  It was so cute.  Our friends left and I was ASLEEP by 8:45 pm on a Friday. #partyanimal.

Saturday my in-laws took the boys downtown for a PBS festival and Ryan and I had brunch.  Alone. Then I had to do some school work (alert, such a wild weekend) and the boys took a long nap. Saturday night I got to spend with my work girlfriends for wine and appetizers.  We of course didn't take one picture but we had a great time eating, drinking, laughing hysterically and telling story after story.

The big highlight of the weekend was the Bronco Game (especially according to Ryan).  We went down a little early and did some tailgating with our friends Ashley and Steve.  Ashley is a woman after my own heart with her party planning skills.  They had a table, BBQ, a tent, TV, and tons of food.  She told me the only thing she is missing is a Broncos tablecloth.  MOM, do you hear that?  The woman needs a tablecloth.

The Broncos won which made Ryan VERY happy and the people watching is as good as it gets ANYWHERE.

Now it is time to pack lunches, finish the last loads of laundry and get Paul to school!
How was your weekend??

The Conscious Cleanse

Happy April.  I organize my life by a school calendar, so my "year" is almost over.  And I'm so happy. But that's not the point of today's post!

I teach yoga at a studio 5 minutes from our house and I just love it.  What I love more is some of the opportunities that come up because of working there.  This month is cleanse month, where we are following the plan of The Conscious Cleanse.  And somehow I convinced my husband to do this with me.

Here is what we can't eat for two weeks.  YES- 14 days:

  • gluten
  • alcohol
  • caffeine
  • sugar
  • corn
  • dairy
  • and probably some other things that I can't think of at the moment.
What we can have:
  • Most fruits (no grapefruit however)
  • Almost all vegetables
  • Brown rice or quinoa
  • Raw nuts
  • Fish
  • Chicken

So basically we start the day with a green smoothie.  Some have been good but today, for example, was a total bust.  Note to self that arugula and flax seed do not make a good match.  Then we have some almonds or an apple for a snack.  Lunch is a salad.  Cabbage, lettuce, celery, carrots, avocado, sprouts, and then our homemade balsamic vinaigrette.  Then maybe some more almonds or fruit or brown rice, or if you are really desperate you can spoon almond butter from the jar and shove it in your mouth.  For dinner we've had chicken and salmon with either a salad or some sort of vegetables.  Then we can have hot water with lemon (yum).

Honestly, the food part has not been that bad (we are on day 4), and I thought my biggest challenge would be the lack of wine in my house.  But it is the caffeine.  The sweet nectar of coffee.  I miss the smell.  I miss the taste.  I miss the way it makes me feel in the morning.  Caffeine withdrawal is serious business.  We are crabby, we have headaches, and at one point I dreamed of bathing in coffee.  Gross.

But we are both feeling a little better today and I hope we are on the mend.  I'm so glad we are doing this together, because I would probably make Ryan move out if he continued to drink coffee every morning when I couldn't.  Also it is nice to have someone in my house to complain with.

I'll keep you updated throughout the next week and a half.  I will say I don't feel hungry and although it is not necessarily convenient, it is interesting to know absolutely every ingredient that goes into our meals.

Happy Tuesday!

4th Of July!

Everyday I wake up with intention to blog.  Everyday I fail.  It is because I am not working this summer.  If I was working my house would be unpacked, it would be clean, I would have dinners made and laundry done.  Instead, I go to the pool.  And take naps.  I live a rough life.

Anyway, I wanted to back track a bit to 4th of July! There was a little parade in our neighborhood, so our favorite neighbors stopped by our house (our messy house) for a pre-parade mimosa and bloody mary.  Nothing says happy birthday America than a 9:00 am alcoholic beverage.  Then we put the kids in their respective strollers and wagons and were off!  We walked a bit, saw a fire truck, ran around, ate ice cream, and threw pine cones.

Then we all had to head home for naps.  The kids and adults.  This is what happens when morning drinking occurs.

It is so nice to have family live near by, but a stressful part of that is the holidays.  We always are running around trying to spend time with everyone.  4th of July we usually take off and celebrate with our friends by having a barbecue and drinking beer.  This year we made a bit of an exception because my brother and fiance were moving to San Francisco (sad) the next day.  So we stopped by my parent's house to say goodbye.  My mom made a lovely spread of ribs, fried chicken, salads and all the desserts you could imagine.  Paul was impressed!

My dad also captured this lovely moment.  The things you will do to make your child laugh!

If you are wondering where these holiday festive hats are from, my mother has an entire collection.  For every holiday.  This is not an exaggeration!!

After dinner and SEVERAL desserts, we said goodbye to my family and headed back to our friend's house.  We did not watch any fireworks this year due to all the fires going on in Colorado but the day was fun and busy!
