Things On My Phone

I love looking through my phone and finding all of these funny pictures about what we've been up to!
I let Charlie eat a pop tart.  And then he spread yogurt all over it.  Disgusting or awesome?  Hard to tell.

We went to the library and Paul insisted on wearing his cape and also carrying around some sticky notes and a pen to write down some "rules."

Here are all the rules.  Please follow them.

We also like to do this now.  I'll see you soon emergency room.

Paul's really into Memory or the matching game, but you have to watch him closely because someone is a little cheater.

Super Paul!!

Charlie loves to color and paint and I let him when I don't care about paint being all over his clothes, his face, my table.

Paul trying to teach Charlie the basics of wii fighting.  #brothers

My sweet little fish waiting for swim lessons.  Love him so much!

March Goals

It is still pretty cold, but the sun is shining and I can hear birds chirping, so lets do this spring!!

Review on the February Goals:
1. Read 5 books.  Short month so I can't go crazy, but this is my favorite thing to do!  Did it.. even read more that 5!  My reviews will be up tomorrow!

2. Host Valentines Get Together.  I am thinking of having a little family party with fun decorations and heart shaped pizzas? We sure did!  We had the pizzas and too much boxed wine and it was a success!!

3. Paint bathroom- I mean for the love of God.   Yes my friends.  YES.  We finally painted the bathroom and I LOVE it.

4. Eat in the dining room- We finally got our new light in the dining room, so I need to celebrate by eating in there! Yes!  We had my parents over for their joint birthday celebration and we ate under our new light.  And then had a dance party to Taylor Swift.  And my dad danced on the couch.  With his shoes on.  My boys are still talking about it.

5. Try a new class at the gym- Ryan and I joined Lifetime and we really like it so far but I haven't tried any of their fitness classes besides yoga.  Want to try something new!- And not so much.  Ugh!

6. Don't eat out for the entire month.  This one is going to be so hard and we picked a short month for a reason.  But on the weekends we spend so much $$ on dumb food like Chipotle and Panera.  So for 28 days we are going to eat at home.  We mostly did this and I am REALLY proud of us.  We spent some Valentines' day money my mom sent us on some take-out and my parents took us out to eat because my brother was in town.. and we cheated ONE day early with Chick Fil-a, but it was really cold and we needed these crazy people that live with us to play in the play area and get some energy out.  So sue us! :) But overall, this was really hard but really good!

Here is what is in store for March:
1. Go to a new class at the gym- just do it Elaine.

2. Read 6 books- my goal is to read 90 books this year.  I am on Goodreads and it keeps track of my progress and lets me know if I am ahead or behind my overall goal.  Don't worry... I am right on point!

3. Check on passports- or find passports.  I can't remember when they expire and it would be a real bummer to pack for Ireland only to find the passport situation is a no go! :)

4. Paint the dining room- I mean supervise Ryan painting the dining room.  I love you Ryan.  Spring break is at the end of this month, so I am thinking this can happen then... but it is possible it sneaks into our April goals!

5. Host a dinner party- I love a party with good food and good wine and I know just the crew to come over.  Already excited!

6. Renew my teaching license.  This is the most time sucking task of my life, but it will feel good to get it off my list!

What are your March Goals??

Weekend Recap!

We had a great snowy weekend here in Colorado.  It helped us to hunker down and get some things done around the house!

My brother was in town this week, so we went to my parent's house on Friday to say goodbye.  They had to leave a little earlier then they planned because of the impending snow storm!  G and Charlie watched a little Robin Hood (our new favorite)!

Saturday we both went to the gym and then hung around the house.  Paul somehow convinced Ryan to buy him some new legos #sucker

And then it started snowing so Charlie played with cars while I drank a beer and finished my book.  Charlie never got out of his pajamas which always equates to a good Saturday.

After naps for all we watched Robin Hood (again) and Charlie entertained us with his funny faces.  I just love that kid!

We hung around and it felt nice to not have anything to do anything for once!

Sunday I braved the snow for the grocery store and yoga!  Then I came home to pick up 800 million legos (I feel like this is how I spend the majority of my time) and when the kids went to nap Ryan and I painted the bathroom.  I was going to do it myself, but Ryan offered to help.  He must still feel bad about Charlie's haircut!

While we painted we listened to the "Dear Sugar" podcast.  This particular episode talked about feminism and sex and women's image of themselves.  Ryan concluded that being a woman sounded hard and I agreed that raising a girl in this day and age would be extra difficult.  Although telling Paul to take his hands out of his pants 632 times a day is no picnic either.

Paul woke up and helped us finish up.  We have a little more touch up to do this week, but overall we really like the color.  But it is making me want to paint my cabinets in there.  Has anyone done this before?  It looks relatively easy on Pinterest, but we all know how that goes!  I would love to hear about some real life experience!

Charlie woke up and we all watched the Oscars.  I thought we were going to get a snow day, but we sure didn't.   I am working on my Academy Award fashion likes and dislikes!  Check back tomorrow!

Have a great Monday!

Odds and Ends!

#1) Have you all had cinnamon sugar toast?  We made this with my dad growing up.  It was very labor intensive.  First you had to toast the bread.  Then spread butter.  Then sprinkle sugar on your bread and carefully shake off any excess.  Then add cinnamon.  It was delightful.  My dad passed this delicious treat on to Paul and then found this at the grocery store.  Someone was smart and mixed cinnamon and sugar into the actual butter.  Paul is a huge fan.  Welcome home diabetes.

2) Adnan Syed was granted an appeal?   And when does the second series of Serial come out?  I am so excited!!

3) I have been going to the gym more than yoga lately (shocker).  It is really because I can go to the gym anytime I want to and don't have to wait for a specific class.  Sometimes this means I go at 5:00 in the morning.  It is exhausting.  Anyway, I obviously roll out of bed, throw some gym clothes on and go.  However, are you aware that some women wear a full face of make-up to the gym?  At 5:00 in the morning?  Why?  Don't people just sweat that off?  It is very confusing.

4) This was my Sunday afternoon.  The kids were napping and the snow was falling.  I was reading a book and People and drinking hot chocolate.  Heaven.

5) Ryan and I watched FIVE hours of The Bachelor Monday night.  FIVE.  It was about 4.5 too many.  Kelsey = crazy.  Britt = crazy.  Not sure about virgin and I like Whitney but unsure how she will be a fertility nurse in a town of 15.

Any interesting things happen to you this week?

3 Day Weekend Wrap-Up!

Is there anything better than a 3-day weekend?  I think not!  We are back at school today, but it is an inservice so no students.  A nice ease-in back to the week!

I posted this on Instagram for the big Valentine's weekend and I still think it is pretty funny!

Friday we did nothing and it was glorious.  We each went to the gym, the kids watched a movie, I drank a half glass of wine and fell asleep.

Saturday Ryan's mom took Paul to the museum so Charlie and I walked to do a few errands.  Look at that cutie with cookie all over his face from the grocery store!

When Paul got home he helped me bake a heart shaped cake and I am sure you can guess who was in charge of the sprinkles.

We had our friends over and I should have taken pictures of the pizzas pre-cooking because they were cuter and shaped like a heart.  Doesn't look like anything post oven! :)

There were lots of boys.  Charlie took sometime on the floor and then joined the crew on the couch.

There is nothing I love more than tons of people at my house, lots of noise, wine consumption and laughs.  All my needs were met Saturday night.

Sunday was rough.  I made myself go to yoga and then parked it on the couch for the rest of the day.  We did make it out to our friend's house Sunday night for more fun with kids and Valentine's suckers.

Monday it snowed so Paul found a little art project my mom had given him for Christmas.  He let Charlie watch.

Then Ryan gave the boys haircuts.  I wanted Ryan to take Charlie to get his haircut and pay a ridiculous amount of money.  Charlie has great hair.  Amazing hair.  I wanted a frat boy/I play lacrosse look.  A little long but cleaned up around the ears and the back.  Ryan claimed that he could probably just do it.  He buzzed Paul's and then was ready to tackle Charlie.

Guess what?  It turns out Ryan did not attend cosmetology school, and perhaps does not know how to achieve the long surfer dude haircut I was desperately wanting.  Charlie ended up with a VERY similar haircut to Paul's.  I am still sad.

I know it is ridiculous because it is just hair.... but he looks so different.  Ryan felt bad and PROMISED he would take him to get it cut next time.  Hopefully I will be over this epic disaster soon.  But no promises!

How was your weekend?

A Tuesday Day Off.

Yesterday I was off with both boys.  I worked out before Ryan left and then got the boys breakfast and every other mandatory need.  When things calmed down, I hopped in the shower.  I took my time and even had time to put on mascara.  I was thinking that it was really quiet and I should really check on the boys making sure they were still in the house.  But that "checking" is always a mistake because they spot you and only one eye has mascara on and you will go your entire day without realizing it.  Anyway,  I snuck down the stairs to see they were still alive but the playroom destroyed.  I just turned around and didn't worry about it.  At least they didn't harm themselves.

After mascara was applied to both eyes, we took a little field trip to the University of Denver to visit mom's old college campus and G of course.  G took us on a little tour and bought the boys cookies and brownies.  Paul was really interested in the gold tower but confused that it was part of the same school.  He thought every building must represent a different university.  4 year old logic.

Then the boys convinced G to chase them in the grass outside the frat houses.  I am sure those frat boys were amused as it was 10:30 and Paul's screeching probably woke them up.  Side note here.  I am old.  When I think about myself I don't think I am that old.  I think college was just a few years ago.  That is not true.  I saw these little babes walking across campus.  We are not in the same age range.  We couldn't even check the same box in an age survey.  This was very humbling for me.  But I bet I could still kick some ass in flip cup.

G showed us the hockey rink, basketball court, swimming pool and we watched some people work out.  It was very exciting day.

G bought the boys new DU tee-shirts and the woman at the bookstore called Charlie a girl.  Is it the hair?  How do I get that kind of long surfer look without him looking like a girl?  Do I have to put product in there?  I am not above it.

We ended the day with a little drive by my old house I lived in with 3 other girls.  A lot of stories went down here that Paul will never be ready to hear.

It was a really fun day and I had to wake up Paul from his nap because he was so tired.  Win, win.

The Weekend

If I could describe the weekend in one word, it would be SUNSHINE.  I had some serious Sunday blues last night because it felt like summer.  And in the summer I do not have to go to work on Monday.  AND it is only February.  I am going to need a snowstorm so I can feel okay about going to work.  Anyway... I was off Friday, so Charlie and I took a little walk to the grocery store to get some necessities and then went to the park!!

We had my parents over for dinner Friday night to celebrate their birthdays.  When Paul asked how old they were turning I said 63.  That was pretty confusing for him because he has somehow convinced himself that my dad is 100.  Sorry dad.

Saturday morning was more outside time- swinging, baseball, snacks and fun!

Saturday evening ended with a movie night.  They were sitting so close- Charlie was trying to watch the movie and Paul was trying to tell him all about it.

The boys and I woke up early Sunday morning and walked to get donuts.  We went to a different park and then drew some pictures outside.

It is just so much easier to have kids when it is nice outside.  There are no jackets, hats, mittens to deal with.  They can run around and take long naps.  You can walk everywhere.  I love it.

Sunday night ended with a full lap story time!
Where's Paul????

How was your weekend?
