Fall Guily Pleasures

Happy October my friends!  There is definitely a shift in the weather.  Colder in the morning and evenings and getting a bit darker earlier.  Here are my FALL guilty pleasures!

1. Pumpkin Spice Latte.  I haven't even had one of these yet, and I don't think I am one of those crazy people who DIE for anything pumpkin, but there is something comforting about this latte.  And maybe because it is not available all year,  it tastes better?

2. Candles- I love burning a cinnamon candle all day long.  Makes the house smell so good!

3. Chili/dips/beer- Although I have a love/hate relationship with football because it is possible my husband could be depressed for DAYS after a game, there is something to sitting on the couch when it is cold outside, eating dips (yum) and drinking a beer. Go Broncos.

4. Boots.  I love flip-flops, I really do.  My pair from this summer are BEAT UP, but there is also something quite special about my favorite pair of boots.

5. Dark nail polish- it is fun to splurge on a manicure and pick a deep, rich color to celebrate the turn of the leaves!

6. Couch relaxing with blankets.  I have a hard time sitting down and doing nothing.  The TV could be on and I am reading, or cleaning, or grading, or whatever.  But sometimes Ryan MAKES me do nothing, and although it is hard it is nice to lay down, snuggle with a cozy blanket and do nothing.

7. Scarves- A perfect scarves is a great pop to a fall outfit!

8. Red Wine- Hello lover.  Lets be honest, I try to drink red wine ALL YEAR LONG, but it really feels right in October.

9. Honey Crisp Apples.  I never knew I would get so excited about a damn apple.  But I do.  They are simply the best.

10. Holiday Shopping.  I am slowly turning into my mother, but I love shopping early for Christmas.  I actually have quite a bit done already and it is all upstairs in boxes ready to be wrapped.

What are your fall pleasures?

What is On My DVR

This is a really important post.  It is about TV.  I think I watch too much TV.  But I don't know if I actually watch it.  I feel like it is on a lot and I'm trying to read a magazine or write emails to students or grade.  Then 30 minutes go by and I have to rewind the show because I have no idea what happened in the last half hour.  Maybe I should stop trying to multitask.

Anyway, I am still committed to the fan favorites, Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, Kardashians, Real Housewives of everything, and The Bachelor, Bachelorette, Bachelor Pad, Bachelor in Paradise and any other Bachelor nonsense.

I'm also looking forward to these oldies coming back later in the month:

And I just added these to the DVR.  Maybe I will actually try to really watch them and figure out what is going on.  I have heard amazing things about Scandal and the Good Wife.

Am I missing something?

Friday Favorites!

Sometimes short weeks seems like long weeks.  Am I right?

But my favorite day is here and it is raining in Colorado this morning and all I want to do is curl up on the couch with a blanket and my coffee and read PEOPLE magazine while the Today Show is on in the background.  Instead, I will go and entertain teenagers and try to teach them something.

This blog is so flipping awesome because even though not a lot of people read it, my family does.  And so who got themselves a faux fur vest?  This gal.  My mom is a shopper, always been a shopper and she likes to be on the hunt for something.  So one day this week I get several text messages, all pictures of fur vests from my little shopper.  Of course she was already out of the store before I could answer, so what does that lady do?  Go the next day to make a purchase.  She would make a great personal assistant.  It is still a little warm to wear the vest, but I'll be sure to take a picture when I do.

My dad is actually similar in this way.  Sometime this summer I mentioned I wanted to read the book Quiet.  And what do you know, the next time I was at their house, the book was waiting for me on the counter.  My dad will say, oh it just happened to be at the store when I was there, even if he had to travel to six different places to find it.

And a shout out to my sweet husband who also is a dedicated reader to this blog.  When he read the post about my fashion desires, he quickly text messaged the best shopper I know, Maureen.  He wanted to surprise me with a little present but was shocked when he searched for fur vests and found they were over 1,000 dollars.  Ryan, welcome to the word "faux."  Anyway, he told Maureen he wanted to get me something since I work so hard and Maureen later scoffed, "Elaine.  I mean we all work hard."  Ha. My mom beat him to the bunch, but don't you worry Ryan.  I'm sure I can think of something else that you can reward me with.  Love you.

This is a great mom article about everything we struggle with every single day.

This one really had me laughing.  I am guilty of so much on this list.  But seriously, who doesn't love pumpkin?

And a little tribute to Joan Rivers.

Happy Friday my friends!

Random Friday Post!

It is Friday.  FRIDAY.  And we have a 3 day weekend.  Life can't get much better!!  Here is the most random Friday ever:

I forgot to mention that Paul and I made apple cupcakes for his first day of school.  Paul loved the frosting and I think the final product mostly looked like an apple! :) Maybe I need red cupcake liners.

#momoftheyear

Did you know pumpkin spice lattes are back?  I am sure you did.  I feel like I should wait until the calendar clicks over to September to have one, but maybe I'll sneak it in this weekend.

This blog post was hilarious.  I know from experience how competitive UNO can get.  Bitches.

This post made me cry.  I just love this message.  "It is what it is and it is what you make it."  I think we all could learn a little something from this article.

I have some fall fashion crushes.  Elbow patches?  I'm into it.

Are Converse cool again?  Am I too old?  The high school kids are wearing them which always makes me nervous.  But I love them.

My best gal-pal Maureen has three fur vests.  I am obsessed with them.  I can't even tell you the measures I went to last year to try and find one.  I couldn't.  If I don't get my hands on one this season, I am flying to Texas and stealing one of Maureens'.  #yesimthisobsessedaboutavest.

Lets be honest.  This is seriously the cutest thing in the world.

Happy Friday my Blog Friends!!

What We've Been Up To!

I have a million pictures on my iphone.  One way Paul likes to entertain himself is by flipping through the pictures and telling me everyone who is involved!  Here are his favorites:

This is when Auntie Mo Mo came to visit.  She is using her infamous Clarasonic on Paul's sweet little face.  He loved it.  Just because I am not having any girls, doesn't mean we won't pamper our boys and inform them of important skin care from an early age!

My dudes mowing the lawn.  Paul loves to help his dad rake leaves, mow the grass, and point out any dog doo.

The fall weather has been so nice, it has allowed us to continue some park time.  This particular afternoon, I treated Paul to a Jamba Juice while we played on the swings.  This picture is taken right before he smashed his Styrofoam cup resulting in frozen berries spilling all over him.  That wiped the smile right off his face!

Before Halloween, we went to the neighborhood pumpkin patch.  Of course Paul could care less about stupid pumpkins and was fascinated with the tractor.  We took a tractor ride around the property and he didn't stop talking about it for days!

Trying to "push" the tractor.  Look at that face of determination.

Then we stupidly asked someone to help us take a family photo.  This is our best shot:

Most of them looked like this:

Finally, our friend Tyson was on fall break a few weeks ago so Kathy and I took the boys to the library for story time.  They sat right by each other holding hands.  Later, Paul told our daycare lady that he went to the library with his "best bud Tyson and Kathy."

A Fall Day!

My parents watched Paul while I went to the doctor and checked on Baby Boy #2 (everything looks good).  When I pulled back up to my parent's house, my mom was sitting on the porch.  Alone. Apparently the three of them had gone for a walk when Grandma was instructed to "go back home" while Paul finished his walk with G.  Isn't that nice?

Before my mom was exiled, they took these great pictures.  They look like his first day of school pixs!  I can't get enough of his popped collar and smile.  He looks so big.  He looks like a big brother!

So cute my little man!  And this weather is amazing... but of course the forecast predicts snow for tonight.  Happy Wednesday everyone!

Starting to look like FALL!

I appreciate that I live somewhere that I can celebrate all four seasons. And while I love the smell of sunscreen and chlorine on Paul's hair, I am excited to feel the air change to that crisp breezy sensation. I look forward to the leaves changing color, for Paul to discover the hilarity of jumping into big piles of leaves, to the smell of pumpkin lingering in the house, to carving jack o'laterns, and cozying up with a blanket when darkness returns a little earlier. I'm excited for all the new adventures this season will bring. Plus, the thought of boots, cute sweaters, and new scarves just make me giddy! Happy fall!
