Oscar Fashion

So many award shows, so little time.  I know you are on the edge of your seats with my opinions, so lets just dive right in:

Not So Great:

Listen Jared.  I want to love you.  I really do.  But cut your freaking hair.  Please.

Remember this guy from the 90's???

I want to like this Gwyneth, but I can't get over the weird shoulder flower thing.

I also feel bad ripping on Lady Gaga after such an amazing performance, but what are the gloves??  Were you doing dishes right before the awards show and then forgot to take them off?  Help us.

Scarlett Jo... It's a lot of green.  A lot.

Maybe I Could Be Convinced:

Kerry Washington/Olivia Pope- you are fresh and beautiful but I don't think I am a fan of the peplum look?

Listen, I love me some Emma Stone and I really like the color, but I am not having heart palpatations when I look at the dress.

Dakota Johnson. I didn't realize that this was Melanie Griffith's daughter #wherehaveibeen.  I saw a REAL awkward interview with Dakota and Melanie and to top it off, Mel must have gotten some brand new botox because girl could not even move her face.  I felt weird.

Reese looks beautiful, but sort of plain too?   It's pretty but doesn't knock your socks off, you know?

YES!!

Kelly Preston, good length, good neckline, amazing color! Bravo!

Rosamond Pike.  You scared the shit out of me during Gone Girl, but you looked incredible!

Cate.  Yes to the dress and YES, YES, YES to the necklace.  I love everything!

I follow Anna Kendrick on Instagram, so I think we are friends and I loved this dress.  The simplicity of the style and the color, she looked beautiful!

But I think the best part of the night was this speech!  So touching!

What do you think?  Favorites?  Not so favorite?  Weigh in!!

Musical Fashion

Alright, lets talk Grammy fashion my friends.  Now I realize the Grammy's can be a little more casual or unusual, but I still have some opinions (shocker).  Here we go:

THE BEST:
1. Katie Perry.  Not everyone can pull off purple hair.  Like me for example.  But she can.  I think her dress is cute and she looks amazing.

2. Miranda Lambert.  I'm not 100% in love with her hair, but I think her dress is flattering and she is looking great!!

3. Beyonce.  Can Beyonce do wrong?

4. Gwen.  There was a lot of commentary over the fact that Gwen was without her trademark red lips, but I liked the change and her jumpsuit.  #idieforonepieces

NOT THE BEST:
1. Rihanna.  A lot of people liked this dress but lets talk logistics.  Where did she sit?  Was she assigned two seats?  One for her and one for the dress?  Her face looks really pretty and fresh but that dress is A LOT.  A lot of volume.  Seriously people, how did she sit down?

2.  Iggy.  I am not even sure about Iggy's dress because I am distracted by the huge braid around her forehead.

3.  Madonna.  How old is Madonna again?  I don't want to talk any shit about my material girl, but hello.  Dress your age.  Yes you have an amazing body.  Yes we all know it, but you look straight up ridiculous in this get-up.

4.  Let me tell you a story.  Have I already told this one?  When my mom and I went wedding dress shopping for my wedding, there was another girl shopping without her mother.  Instead she was with her friends.  This is a catastrophic mistake.  This girl would come out of the dressing room in a particular dress and her friends would tell her how amazing she looked.  Of course this sounds nice, but for something as important as a wedding dress you need some cold hard truth.  This is the dress in  pictures for the REST OF YOUR LIFE.  You cannot be told what you want to hear. You have to hear the truth.  Anyway, that is what I feel like happened to Katharine Mcphee's hair. Some girlfriend told her that this slicked down homely look was really fetch.  Sorry to be mama bear Katharine, but it is not your best look.

NOT SURE WHAT I THINK:
1. Taylor.  I love me some T.Swift and I am sure this is edgy and everything, but I can't convince myself I totally like it.

What were your favorites?

Oh, I have one more favorite.  Annie Freaking Lennox.  She is the real deal and ROCKED it Sunday night.  I love her.

Tuesday Fashion!

Yesterday my friend Jenn gave me the genius idea of talking Golden Globe Fashion.  I love an awards show just for the dresses.  Obviously I love Tina and Amy too, but the dresses!  Anyway, here are my favorites, my not so favorites, and I can't decide!

FAVORITES (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)
#1 Sienna Miller.  I couldn't find a good picture of her on the red carpet, but I thought she looked so pretty when she was presenting!

#2 Reese Witherspoon.  I'm just so much in love with her after Wild and thought she rocked her dress!

#3 Amal Alamuddin.  I thought one of Tina and Amy's best jokes was about all of Amal's accomplishments and yet George Clooney was receiving the lifetime achievement award.  Hilarious.  And she is beautiful.

#4 Jenna Dewan.  Not many people can pull off yellow, but Jenna can!

#5- Emma Stone.  I just love Emma Stone.  I think she is cool and funny and I love that she wore pants and looked incredible!

#6- Julianne Moore.  When I grow up I want to be Julianne.  She is beautiful and classy and I love her!

#7- J-LO.  Lets face it.  Jennifer Lopez has a bangin body!  And she looked amazing Sunday night!  How do you get those legs?

Not Sure- I don't hate these but I am not in love with these:
#1 Kate Hudson.  Now don't get me wrong.  I love me some Kate Hudson.  And her body is amazing.  I can't exactly figure out what it is about this dress, but I just can't give it my all! :)

#2- Jennifer Aniston.  Again, I love sweet Jen, but it is a little "safe."  She looks gorgeous but I'm not 100% satisfied!

Not my favorites- something about the following just missed the mark a bit!

#1- Kerry Washington.  KERRY!!  What are you doing to me?  I love you in Scandal.  LOVE.  In fact if you wore something from your Scandal inspired line from the Limited it would be great.

#2- Claire Danes.  Claire, you are prettier than this.  I don't hate the dress but I think it is too big.  Jenn also reported about the eye shadow issue, but I couldn't get a good picture.

#3- Lena.  Oh Lena.  Although this is probably less offensive than some other things you have worn to an awards show, it looks like a lot of fabric.  A lot.

What were your favorites??

Friday Favorites!

Well I have to say, the thing I am most excited about today is FALL BREAK!!

In just a few short hours I will be celebrating with a Bud Light.  ONE WEEK off.  No where to be, no one to answer to, just hanging out with my favorite dudes.  Of course I have some plans.  Like get a pedicure.  And clean our baseboards.  Seriously, that is on my list.  But mostly I want to read and play and enjoy the boys!

Good things I've read this week:
1. This article about firepitting your marriage and children- always saving the "good" stuff for when you have friends over.  This really hit home for me!

2. Bad at something?  Do it anyway! Loved this and it had the "F" word quite a bit!

3. This made me cry.  Be nice to yourself and enjoy life- What the dying really regret.

I read this book in a day and a half.  I couldn't put it down.  It is depressing and amazing all in one! Check it out!!

We are getting a new library in our town which is much needed, and this week they had a special story hour at the site where the new library will go.   The mayor read a story about Construction and then the kids received plastic hard hats and got to dig in little pools of gravel for BOOKS!  Talk about an adventure.  Then they all were lifted up into a bulldozer to honk the horn.  A very good day that combined the two favorites of my children: books and dirt!

Finally we had parent teacher conferences last night and of course I spent 80 hours looking in front of my closet figuring out what to wear.  Thank the lord I have an iphone and can text mirror pictures of myself to girlfriends for outfit approval.  What did we do before technology??  I was worried the scarf (from Forever 21) was overwhelming, but I rocked it regardless!

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Friday Favorites

Thank you to Friday for making an appearance.  To celebrate, here are my favorite Friday finds!

I made these baked tacos for dinner this week.  Just like a regular taco but then you put the whole shell with meat and cheese right in the oven.  YUM.  Here is the recipe.

Do you love Instagram?  Then you totally need these Chatbooks!  A little book with all your Instagram pictures with the HASHTAGS!  They are so cute and perfect!  Get the app!

Love this military jacket from Nordstroms (duh.  Where else?)  Fall get here soon!  Oh wait it might be here today.  It is 50 degrees.  But it will be 80 on Saturday.  Weather is weird.

And a little promotion for myself! Want to try Rodan and Fields skincare?  If you sign up as a preferred customer this month you will be entered to win a FREE eye cream.  That is a 60 dollar value my friends.  This stuff is so amazing!  There is a 60 day, empty bottle return policy so really there is no risk in trying.  Whatever your skin issue is, I have the answer! #changingskin

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!

What the Boys Wear

I am in a really good spot where I am still able to dress my children.  My people tell me that this won't last forever.  That soon my kids will have an actual opinion of what they want to wear to school.  And it probably won't be what I would want.  WHAT?  My people tell me all of a sudden they won't want to wear jeans.  And they will wear athletic shorts even when it is negative sixteen degrees outside.  And all their shirts will have characters from a dumb show on them.

That day will be super sad for me.  Because I love dressing my kids in a good outfit.  I don't have girls so the "cuteness" factor is limited, but I work with what I can.  And from the following pictures, you can see I work with a collar.  I like a collar, a button down, or if we are getting really fancy I like a sweater vest.
And I can already tell you I will cry actual tears the day my boys say no to one of my great outfit requests.  And until then I will pop those collars and hope for the best.

Friday Favorites!

Sometimes short weeks seems like long weeks.  Am I right?

But my favorite day is here and it is raining in Colorado this morning and all I want to do is curl up on the couch with a blanket and my coffee and read PEOPLE magazine while the Today Show is on in the background.  Instead, I will go and entertain teenagers and try to teach them something.

This blog is so flipping awesome because even though not a lot of people read it, my family does.  And so who got themselves a faux fur vest?  This gal.  My mom is a shopper, always been a shopper and she likes to be on the hunt for something.  So one day this week I get several text messages, all pictures of fur vests from my little shopper.  Of course she was already out of the store before I could answer, so what does that lady do?  Go the next day to make a purchase.  She would make a great personal assistant.  It is still a little warm to wear the vest, but I'll be sure to take a picture when I do.

My dad is actually similar in this way.  Sometime this summer I mentioned I wanted to read the book Quiet.  And what do you know, the next time I was at their house, the book was waiting for me on the counter.  My dad will say, oh it just happened to be at the store when I was there, even if he had to travel to six different places to find it.

And a shout out to my sweet husband who also is a dedicated reader to this blog.  When he read the post about my fashion desires, he quickly text messaged the best shopper I know, Maureen.  He wanted to surprise me with a little present but was shocked when he searched for fur vests and found they were over 1,000 dollars.  Ryan, welcome to the word "faux."  Anyway, he told Maureen he wanted to get me something since I work so hard and Maureen later scoffed, "Elaine.  I mean we all work hard."  Ha. My mom beat him to the bunch, but don't you worry Ryan.  I'm sure I can think of something else that you can reward me with.  Love you.

This is a great mom article about everything we struggle with every single day.

This one really had me laughing.  I am guilty of so much on this list.  But seriously, who doesn't love pumpkin?

And a little tribute to Joan Rivers.

Happy Friday my friends!

Random Friday Post!

It is Friday.  FRIDAY.  And we have a 3 day weekend.  Life can't get much better!!  Here is the most random Friday ever:

I forgot to mention that Paul and I made apple cupcakes for his first day of school.  Paul loved the frosting and I think the final product mostly looked like an apple! :) Maybe I need red cupcake liners.

#momoftheyear

Did you know pumpkin spice lattes are back?  I am sure you did.  I feel like I should wait until the calendar clicks over to September to have one, but maybe I'll sneak it in this weekend.

This blog post was hilarious.  I know from experience how competitive UNO can get.  Bitches.

This post made me cry.  I just love this message.  "It is what it is and it is what you make it."  I think we all could learn a little something from this article.

I have some fall fashion crushes.  Elbow patches?  I'm into it.

Are Converse cool again?  Am I too old?  The high school kids are wearing them which always makes me nervous.  But I love them.

My best gal-pal Maureen has three fur vests.  I am obsessed with them.  I can't even tell you the measures I went to last year to try and find one.  I couldn't.  If I don't get my hands on one this season, I am flying to Texas and stealing one of Maureens'.  #yesimthisobsessedaboutavest.

Lets be honest.  This is seriously the cutest thing in the world.

Happy Friday my Blog Friends!!
